LENOX SELECTS NEW SUPERINTENDENT

The Lenox School Committee is pleased to announce that it has concluded the search for a new superintendent to replace Interim Superintendent Basan N. Nembirkow, who will be stepping down in July.  The search process was led by William Erickson of the New England School Development Council (NESDEC), a professional educational search firm that specializes in identifying superintendent candidates. NESDEC provided the board with 28 qualified applicants. After an extensive search and interview process, with critical input from an eleven-member Superintendent Search Advisory Committee, the board reached a unanimous decision to select Edward W. Costa, Ed.D. as the next Superintendent of the Lenox Public Schools.

Dr. Costa brings a wealth of knowledge, skills, and experience to this role from his more than 28 years of work in education. During his successful career, he has held the administrative positions of Assistant Principal, Principal, Executive Director of Secondary Schools, and since 1998 has been Superintendent of Schools in East Longmeadow.  He has been a teacher of Computer Literacy and Computer Programming in a middle school and Director of Instrumental Music in a middle and high school setting.

A graduate of Brockton High School, Dr. Costa has a Bachelor of Music Education Degree, a Master’s Degree in Secondary School Administration, and a Doctorate in Education Administration, Curriculum & Supervision from the University of Oklahoma.

The School Committee would like to thank all of the staff, parents and townspeople who assisted in this search through attendance and participation in the various focus groups. The board would especially like to thank each of the members of the Superintendent Search Advisory Committee who worked many hours reviewing applications, interviewing candidates and sharing their insights. Their work was critical to this endeavor. Those members are: Aimee Munday - Kindergarten Teacher, Tim Lee - Elementary School Principal, Kelley Troiano - Middle School Teacher, Brian Tolan - High School Teacher, Pam Ritrosky - LMMHS Guidance Assistant, Kim Graham - Director of Lenox Community Center, Anne Ubertini - Elementary PTO Co-President, Gordon Prescott - High School Parent, Bob Munch - Elementary School Parent, Marianne Ellrodt - Middle School Parent, and Amy Schwendemann - Special Needs PAC representative.
