NetStorage is a Novell technology we use to allow students and staff to access their school documents from home.

Some tips for using NetStorage

NetStorage allow users to download / upload files to their school accounts. In order to be able to view or change a document at home you must have the proper software installed on your computer to edit documents.

For maximum compatibility it is recommended that documents be saved in “Rich Text Format” or RTF. This will preserve the fonts and styles used on your document but will not support high-end features such as tables. It will, however open on Office, Works, Wordpad, and Appleworks

Always remember to make a local copy of your work as well.

There are 3 methods of connecting to NetStorage:

Option #1: Web login

This option has the advantage of being non-invasive with no change being made to your PC, and no software to download. This is the preferred option from public computers. This option is also currently the only option open to Linux and MAC users.

Option #2: NetDrive

This option uses software that needs to be downloaded and installed on your computer, but is the easiest to use. Using the NetDrive client this option will map the schools servers to a drive letter on your computer, similar to a CD or flash drive. This is the overall preferred option as it is very easy to use once it is setup.

Option #3: My Network Places

This option does not require any software other than Windows XP or 2000 installed on your computer. Instead of a drive letter this option will create a shortcut to the school's servers under “My Network Places”. So far this seems to be the best option for AOL users and others that would like the ease of NetDrive but for some reason have issues with the software.
