LENOX MEMORIAL
MIDDLE SCHOOL PTO
MEETING MINUTES
NOVEMBER 8, 2006
SECRETARY’S REPORT
N.S. highlighted minutes from the previous meeting on October 12th which were approved.
TREASURER’S REPORT
U.D. reported on income/expenses since the previous meeting. A total of $696.76 was paid out for volleyball jerseys, a partial payment on the 7th grade field trip bus rental and bulb planting. Ending balance is $5889.35 with a total of $550 in outstanding monies allocated. Treasurer’s report was accepted as amended.
DISCUSSION
The 8th grade field trip has been planned for April 2007. Students will visit the Industrial History Museum in Lowell, Mass. Mrs. G. (Social Studies) filed an application with Target Stores to fund a portion of the cost of the bus rental. Should Target not supply the funds, PTO agreed to allocate up to $1000 to cover the cost of the bus contingent on receipt of the funds from Target.
The Fall Berkshire Grown Fundraiser will go out in backpacks on or about 11/9/06. An “all call” will be made to alert/remind parents to submit their orders by the deadline date.
A discussion of the Spring Fundraiser was postponed until January to have time to investigate ideas and alternatives to the chocolate sale.
Status of the 501 © 3 filing was discussed. It was agreed that there is no reason for PTO to have this status at this time and the motion was accepted that PTO will not file for this status and will remain an unincorporated association. D. D. agreed to talk with the president of the Morris PTO about the $500 they allocated for this purpose.
Announcement was made about and all were encouraged to promote and attend the Life Skills Program Dinner on Thurs., 11/9, from 5:00-6:45 in the cafeteria.
Regarding “Event Nights,” the 6th grade class took a survey of student ideas and determined that holding an event at Eastover again received the highest number of “votes.” It was reported that V. F. agreed to chair the 7th grade event and R. S. volunteered to chaperone. It was suggested that each class advisor should check with 7th and 8th grade students to come up with ideas/suggestions for their events. PTO is also looking for adult volunteers to chair and chaperone each class event.
INFORMATIONAL UPDATE
Teacher breakfast on 10/24/06 had a good turnout.
A draft of the first newsletter was circulated. Edits were suggested. N. S. and D. D. agreed to prepare the newsletter for copying in the office to be distributed as an insert in the school newsletter on 11/27.
OPEN DISCUSSION
Suggested dates were made for the 2nd Annual Middle School Talent Show to be held in the Duffin Theater. March 23 and March 30 were identified as the dates to target pending the master calendar conflict test. K. T. and R. S. will organize and chair the show with the help of K. Z. All agreed to hold the entry fee at a modest $5 per family and to plan for a “cast party” in the cafeteria as a good way to end the evening.
R. S. voiced interest in planning an overnight trip for the 6th grade to Nature’s Classroom in Connecticut during May or June, 2007. This would be a two day, one night trip with a possible cost of $180-$200 per student.
MEETING ADJOURNED at 9:05pm.
