MEETING MINUTES
DECEMBER 13, 2006
SECRETARY’S REPORT
N. S. highlighted minutes from the previous meeting on November 8th which were approved.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Ending balance is $8032.67 which includes income and payments from the Berkshire Grown fundraiser, among other items. The treasurer’s report was approved.
DISCUSSION
A.B. and K. R-L. requested PTO assistance with a field trip to the Norman Rockwell Museum on Jan. 17, 2007, which will be a collaboration of the sixth grade Language Arts and Visual Arts programs. The concept is to recreate the steps Rockwell took and demonstrate how he illustrated literature. This trip will be used as enrichment to the current program and will be in addition to the end of year field trip. PTO agreed to allocate up to $500 contingent on matching funds of at least 50% received by the Language Arts and/or Art Department. [A.B. notified PTO by email subsequent to this meeting that 50% of the cost of the trip was secured through the English Department.]
K. Z. will attempt to reserve the Duffin Theatre for the Middle School Talent show on March 30, 2007. The prior week will be reserved for rehearsal as well.
The suggestion box contained a thank you note from N. D.
A number of suggestions were made for the individual class nights out, i.e., ice skating, roller skating, Simons Rock, Chocolate Springs, Arcadian Shop after a moonlight hike, bonfire, confidence building activity such as ropes course, etc. It’s OK to get input from the students but it is also a good idea to offer suggestions for new ideas that they may not be aware of. We are in need of volunteers to chair these events.
Discussion of spring fundraiser is tabled until January.
INFORMATIONAL UPDATE
Net proceeds from Berkshire Grown fundraiser exceeded $2000.
Morris School PTO offered to let Middle School PTO use the $500 originally earmarked for filing the 501(c) (3) application for other student activities as needed.
Web site is outlined. M. P. is looking for content. There will be links to bylaws, meeting schedules, newsletter, etc. Meeting minutes will be included. Contact information will include email addresses only. It was agreed that links work better than scrolling. Objective is to keep the website low maintenance. PTO would like to be listed as a separate menu item on the school web site and should be listed as “Middle School PTO.” N S. will send all approved minutes to M. P. to be posted on the site.
OPEN DISCUSSION
A Focus Group will be held on Thurs., 1/4/07, at Town Hall to discuss issues concerning the search for a new school superintendent. All PTO officers and members are encouraged to attend.
