MEETING MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 13, 2006
SECRETARY’S REPORT
N.S. highlighted the minutes from the previous meeting of June 7, 2006. The minutes were accepted.
TREASURER’S REPORT
U.D. distributed the detailed statement showing a balance of $7499.02. Outstanding monies allocated total $550 for a current available balance of $6949.02.
OLD BUSINESS
- PTO purchased student agendas for 7th and 8th grades this year which were inadvertently billed to the Middle School account. It was requested the PTO Treasurer write a check to the Middle School to pay for the agendas.
- A request of $250 was made to the PTO to pay a portion of the uniforms needed for the Girls Volleyball team. This is a one-time request. A motion to allocate the money for this purpose was approved.
NEW BUSINESS
- An anonymous note addressed to PTO members shared unhappy feelings about some people being left out in the distribution of “Welcome Back” gifts to all Middle School teachers on the first day of school. This led to a discussion about ways to seek better communication and inclusion among parents, teachers, administrators and staff. B.K. suggested the PTO may want to bring in a “team building” coach to help with this and offered to research the cost.
- S.D. submitted her resignation as co-president of PTO effective after the October 12 meeting. A discussion of seeking two new co-presidents ensued. (Subsequent to this meeting, D.D. and K.Z. were voted in as co-presidents by the remaining PTO officers.)
- S.D. indicated that the PTO insurance policy is up for renewal on Oct. 10. Questions about what type and how much insurance needed were raised. N.S. agreed to talk with B.Z., father of a middle school student and an insurance expert, for some advice. A motion was accepted to approve up to $895 for insurance.
- M.P. has agreed to update the Middle School Directory.
- New fund raising ideas were briefly discussed such as Berkshire Grown and indoor miniature golf.
- It was agreed that PTO should have an information table at Back To School Night. D.D. agreed to prepare a poster and information sheet about what PTO is/does and listing the meeting dates. U.D. agreed to make a brief statement directing people to the PTO table during the parent assembly at the beginning of the evening. B.K. agreed to get helium filled balloons to call attention to the table. V.O. agreed to complete the building usage form to arrange for the table and to provide pens, clip boards, sign-up forms, etc.
OPEN DISCUSSION
- A request for $25 to plant bulbs around the library was approved.
