SECRETARY’S REPORT

NG highlighted minutes from the previous meeting on December 12, which were approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT

NS reported that some of the Berkshire Grown fundraiser invoices were paid, but there are still a few outstanding bills. The funds allocated for MK’s 7th grade field trip have still not been paid. The memorial book for Jim Eder was bought and NS will bring it to the library. DD volunteered to call PE to tell her that the book was bought and put in the library. The treasurer’s report was accepted.

DISCUSSION

Activity Nights-

It was agreed upon that if the grades were over budget on their planned activities,  no more than five dollars a student will be charged. The sixth graders are being given options on which to vote; the seventh grade is possibly going to Berkshire South and the date is being changed to 2/8; the 8th grade is thinking about going to Eastover and the date is up in the air.

Talent Show-

RS put flyers up all over LMMS announcing the talent show.

Fundraisers-

Fall Fundraiser: A brief discussion  took place about why the Berkshire Grown fundraiser wasn’t as successful this year. Some reasons given were that the items weren’t giftable enough and that some people who ordered last year didn’t order this year because they didn’t like the products.

Spring Fundraiser: LM. brought up the Harlem Rockets as a spring fundraiser idea.

AW brought in information explaining about Scrip gift card purchasing. (Scrip is a way for the PTO to make money by buying gift cards and then selling them to people at face value. When the cards are used, the PTO receives a percentage of the sale.)  The idea was very well received, but it was agreed upon that we need to look into the exact terms and narrow down the list of available gift cards.

School Lunches-

Another discussion about healthy lunch choices ensued. CE reported that she spoke to someone at Williamstown Elementary School about how they made their cafeteria healthier and more environmentally friendly. Williamstown uses metal silverware (the only investment they made was purchasing the utensils) and separates the trash from the food waste. The two issues that were highlighted on how to improve the LMMHS cafeteria was the environmental aspect and the healthier food concern. A suggestion was made to start with the environmental aspect and to have the PTO invest in some metal utensils. KT and RS volunteered to invite the Environmental Club to the next PTO meeting so we could talk to them about helping to make the cafeteria more environmentally friendly. AW volunteered to be part of the committee to work to improve the environmental aspect of the cafeteria.
