INFORMATION

Welcome all new middle school students to the Outing Club. This is a club that is opened to middle school students only. This club runs through the months of September, October, November, March, May, and June. An Outing Club trip takes place on Saturdays and sometimes after school. The Staffs Mr. Shepardson, Mr. Sanders and Dan Lane have many years of outdoor experience. Dan Lane is also qualified in CPR certification. If a trip is canceled then you will receive an email on your school email account one hour before a trip is supposed to happen and in the Trip Notice section as well. Rescheduled trips will be emailed a week before a trip happens. You will also receive two emails which are to remind people when a trip is and to remind people to turn in their permission slips. For middle school students that want to join this club please email Dan Lane your name, what grade you will be going into, or what grade you are in. You may also do it during school summer vacation. If you have any questions or concerns or want to sign up, please email Dan Lane. Also you may call us at (413) 446-7249. We look to meeting you and having you in our club. Staff emails are Just below the club trips.

Then students will take a short break and will continue to the gazebo. After that we will hike back to the parking lot on West Mountain Road. For Hike 2 Students will start from the parking lot and hike up hemlock trail. Then we will hike to the spot that over looks Richmond for a short break. OCTOBER MOUNTAIN HIKE

Meet at the trail head on Roaring Brook Road. Students will hike from there up to a camp fire pit. Once we reach the camp fire pit we will start a little camp fire and roast hotdogs and marshmallows. On this trip students will learn how to build a fire and keep it going. They will also learn the safety tips of fire. This trip is basically to get you prepared for the camping trip at the end of the school year. Students will put the fire out then we will hike back to the trail head on Roaring Brook Road where parents will pick up their Students.

FIRE TOWER DOG WALK

Meet at the trail head on Reservoir Road. Students will bring their own dogs on this trip. We will hike from their up to the old abandoned Fire Tower where we will enjoy a mountain view with a big river near it. After that we will hike back down to the trail head where parents will pick up their Students. This trip might be cut.

ROARING BROOK ROAD BIKING & TORY CAVE HIKE

Meet at our schools bike rack. From their students will ride their bikes down Housatonic Street and over the Woods Pond Foot Bridge and we will ride on the back roads of Roaring Brook Road. On the Road we will stop at a spring where students can get a drink then we will ride to a trail head that will lead us to Tory Cave. We will then hike up to the cave listen to the important history told by one of the directors. Once that’s done we will walk back to our bikes and ride to St. Helena’s Chapel where parents will pick up their Students. This trip will only happen if we do not have the camping trip.

ROARING BROOK ROAD CLEAN UP

Meet at a house on Roaring Brook Road that will be in the permission slips. From there we will walk along side Roaring Brook Road with trash bags picking up trash. When we are finished we should end up at the Woods Pond Foot Bridge in Lenox Dale on Silver Street. Pick up will also be at the Woods Pond Foot Bridge. Also pizza is provided for everyone at the end of the trip.

OCTOBER MOUNTAIN CAMPING

Meet at St. Helena’s Chapel with you camping gear. This trip works differently because we only take 7 students which means not everyone gets to go. Once everyone is at the church the group will be transported over to the trail head on Roaring Brook Road by Mr. Shepardson and Mr. Sanders. On this trip we will be doing a lot of fun activities like fishing, swimming around, hiking to Tory Cave, and having a camp fire. Students that are selected to go must attend a mandatory camping trip meeting in room 25. Students selected will be those with regular participation meaning more than three trips and those that show appropriate behavior. Students should pay a minimum fee of $. 5.00 toward the food. Pick will be on Sunday Morning at the trail head on Roaring Brook Road. Please visit the Camping Information Page to see if you have been selected by going to the October Mountain Camping Page. Undecided whether the trip will happen or not  this school year.
