It’s your life – where do you want to go?
What is an internship?
It is a combination
of academic and practical applications.
Students are mentored by professionals in a particular field of study, and complete
projects and journals. They also participate in a series of seminars throughout
the year.
Internships are available in the high school and off-campus. It is considered a Level II course, and letter grades are issued on high school transcripts.
Students gain hands-on skills, which can be listed on a resume and college application. Colleges and employers look highly on structured learning experiences. Internships are individually designed for both college bound students and those entering the work force.
Time commitment varies from one to three hours a day, for one semester or full year. Students may also fulfill their internship after school for academic credit. There is some flexibility in how hours can be completed. A maximum of 15 credits per school year are available.
Many different types of internships are available to juniors and seniors who are on-track to graduate. An internship in any field of study is possible!
Here’s
what colleges are saying about high school internship programs:
“It shows initiative and maturity”,“it
can only help the application”, “it shows us a lot about a student
that we might not otherwise see”,“we look for students to apply
skills to their classroom knowledge”.
