Science Extravaganza Paper

The first draft of the extravaganza report is due on the 1st.  Below you will find the parts I am looking for.  While you don’t lose any points for missing parts on the rough draft,  I will be making comments on what you do turn in.  Therefore, the more you give me, the better off you will be for the final draft.

A Cover Page…..basically the cover of your report with the name of your project, your name(s), and the date.

Table of contents….. List the parts of your report (problem, research, hypothesis, etc. ) and the page numbers where they begin. You'll have to make this page after the others.

Problem page….A page describing what your experiment is and what you are trying to find out.  The page should also include your control and variable.

*** Remember the mold experiment?  The control was my bread on the wall.  The variable was whatever you did to the bread that was different from my control piece.

Research pages…. Tell what you found out from the books or other sources you used to learn about your topic and be sure those sources are listed in your bibliography. This should be about 2 pages in length.  If you worked with a partner, you are both responsible for writing your own research papers.

Hypothesis….What is your hypothesis and why did you choose it?

Material and Procedure…What materials did you use and what steps did you follow to perform the experiment.  A person should be able to do your experiment by following your procedure.

Data…What information did you collect during your experiment?  Show the data that you collected in a table.

Conclusion...Describe your interpretation of your results. Look over your notes, charts, and log and write what you think your data shows. You can put your opinions here. Was your hypothesis (what you expected to happen) correct? Be sure to include actual pieces of data that you think are important.  Don't be afraid to say that you might have made a mistake somewhere. Great discoveries can come from what we learn from mistakes!   You  should  to state the limitations of your project. (For example, if your project was to find out something about dogs and you used your dog, you can say "My dog did this. This might not be the same for other dogs." You can't say that all dogs would behave the same as yours because you didn't check all dogs.)

Each partner is responsible for writing their own conclusions.  A conclusion should be about a page in length.

Bibliography  List the sources that you used to find the information for your research.  You should use at least 5 sources.
